After a successful Algoa National Rally. Where we had to finish. And we did. It’s straight back into the pressure pot of National Rallying and finishing again.
I would love to tell you that I will take the same,
attitude into the upcoming TRAC N4 National Rally in Dullstroom this weekend. But I would be lying. This is probably going to be the most pressure of the year. Let me tell you why.
Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa are hosting a bunch of guests and media, and they will want to see the car and team they are supporting finish the rally.
The last time Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa brought guests through. I messed up and mis-shifted our Toyota GR Yaris and took us out the rally.
And then this rally itself is the most technical and challenging of the year. I have seen the recce videos.
The roads are narrow, unlike Algoa that had wide roads, and there are trees everywhere. To add to the complexity, there are plenty drop offs and jumps all over the place.
Dullstroom is well known to break cars and test drivers. Last year, more than half the field did not make it to the end. One mistake and its game over for any team.
And because it’s a development year, development has not stopped even though it’s the last rally of the year.
Just one of the things that have been changes is that fFor extra downforce and high-speed stability, our car will have a WRC Toyota Gazoo racing type wide body kit and large rear wing fitted by the time we hit the start of the event.
I don’t want to be the guy that rearranges our new body kit or hurts the car so close to what will be a brilliant first season if I finish.
Talking of brilliant. And about something we never thought possible. If I finish, there is every chance that I can end up on the podium as a driver in our class.
And my co-driver, has the chance to walk away with the 1st place trophy. It’s all to play for like I said.
